Our Los Gatos and Mountain View hospitals have been designated an Aetna Institute of Quality® (IOQ) Orthopedic Care Facility for spine surgery.

Additionally, Mountain View Hospital also qualified for the Aetna IOQ for total joint replacement. Designated IOQ facilities demonstrate excellence in clinical quality, value and access for orthopedic care, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Since 2005, the Cardiac & Pulmonary Wellness Center in Mountain View has been consistently recognized by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) for our commitment to enhancing standards of care in the delivery of our cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs. Certified AACVPR programs are recognized as leaders in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation because they offer the most advanced practices available. AACVPR certification is valid for three years.

American College of Cardiology (ACC) Transcatheter Valve Certification

El Camino Health has been recognized with the Transcatheter Valve Certification from the American College of Cardiology (ACC), acknowledging its exceptional program, physician leadership, quality patient outcomes and team-based care. El Camino Health is the first health care organization in the state of California to receive this certification.

The ACC's Transcatheter Valve Certification is an external review and certification process that identifies hospitals that are currently implementing best practices and clinical excellence in transcatheter valve procedures, which include replacing the aortic valve or repairing the mitral or tricuspid valves using minimally invasive techniques. El Camino Health’s Norma Melchor Heart and Vascular Institute is recognized for its uniquely high quality, pioneering work in the heart valve space and offers advanced cardiac and vascular care at every stage of the health care continuum.

American College of Radiology (ACR) Gold Standard of Accreditation

ACR Gold Standard Accreditation for Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

To achieve the ACR Gold Standard of Accreditation, our facility's personnel qualifications, equipment requirements, quality assurance, and quality control procedures have gone through a rigorous review process and have met specific qualifications. Every aspect of the ACR accreditation process is overseen by board-certified, expert radiologists and medical physicists in advanced diagnostic imaging.

In January 2021 El Camino Health received Magnet® Designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for the fourth consecutive time for nursing excellence and quality patient care.

El Camino Health was designated as a Magnet organization in 2005, 2010, and 2015. Only eight percent of hospitals in the country have Magnet designation, and less than one percent are four-time designees. El Camino Health is one of the original 41 Magnet hospitals and leads with an extraordinary program.

Baby-Friendly® Designated Hospital

Baby-Friendly USA

Baby-Friendly USA has designated Los Gatos Hospital as a Baby-Friendly® Hospital. Developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative encourages and recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies. The prestigious recognition is given after the implementation of Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding and a rigorous on-site survey is completed.

Los Gatos Hospital was the first hospital in Santa Clara County to earn the Baby-Friendly designation.

Heart and vascular care at El Camino Health has earned two distinctive rankings for 2024 from Healthgrades, an independent evaluator of hospital quality for conditions and procedures based solely on clinical outcomes. Heart and vascular care at El Camino Health is ranked No. 4 among clinical programs in California. And, nationally, our heart and vascular program is recognized as one of America's 100 Best for Cardiac Care.

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for all Americans, resulting in nearly 700,000 death each year. The 2024 Healthgrades analysis revealed that the variation in performance among hospitals continues to widen, making it increasingly important to seek care at top-rated programs.

This is the fourth year in a row El Camino Health has been awarded five stars. The national average among hospitals is three stars.

El Camino Health has received the American College of Cardiology's NCDR Chest Pain - MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2023 and is one of only 262 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor. The award recognizes El Camino Health's commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients. To receive the Chest Pain - MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award, El Camino Health has demonstrated sustained achievement in the Chest Pain - MI Registry for two consecutive years (2021 and 2022), and performed at the highest level for specific performance measures. Full participation in the registry engages hospitals in a robust quality improvement process using data to drive improvements in adherence to guideline recommendations and overall quality of care provided to heart attack patients.

In 2019, 49 accredited cancer programs throughout the United States earned the OAA.

El Camino Health is also the only hospital in California to earn an additional distinction as an Everest Award winner, and just one of 29 hospitals nationwide to receive this prestigious honor. The Joint Commission awarded our Los Gatos and Mountain View hospitals a Disease-Specific Care Certification for the management of sepsis. This certification demonstrates a high level of care for patients with sepsis.

To achieve this designation from The Joint Commission, El Camino Hospital demonstrated that its Stroke Program meets national standards and guidelines to significantly improve outcomes for stroke, the nation's third leading cause of death. With this designation, El Camino Health's Mountain View hospital has been designated as a Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center. El Camino Health's Los Gatos hospital is designated as a Primary Stroke Center.

The Joint Commission's Disease Specific Certification standards address important functions relating to the care of patients and the management of hospitals. The Joint Commission awarded Los Gatos Hospital certification in Hip and Knee Replacement, as well as Spinal Fusion Surgery. The certification is a widely recognized benchmark for overall program quality.

Mountain View Hospital (El Camino Hospital) is the first California hospital to be certified by The Joint Commission in three areas for hip and knee surgery: Hip replacement, Hip Fracture and Knee Replacement.

The Joint Commission stated that each of the three programs at Mountain View Hospital met standards with no areas of deficiency or recommendations necessary, earning it Disease-Specific Care Certification. This means that patient outcomes and satisfaction scores are among the best in the country.

American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award

Gold Plus Award from the American Heart Association

El Camino Health received the Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award, which is the American Heart Association's highest honor for proven dedication to ensuring all stroke patients have access to best practices and life-saving care.

In addition, El Camino Health received the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus Award. To qualify for this recognition, hospitals must meet specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient's arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster alteplase.

El Camino Health also received the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Award, which aims to ensure patients with Type 2 diabetes, who might be at higher risk for complications, receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke.

El Camino Health earned the Healthgrades 2021 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. This distinction places El Camino Health among the top 15 percent of hospitals nationwide for patient experience, according to Healthgrades, the leading marketplace that connects patients and providers. For this annual analysis, Healthgrades evaluated 3,297 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from January 2019 to December 2019. Of those hospitals evaluated, 417 hospitals outperformed their peers—based on their patients’ responses—to achieve this award.

El Camino Health's Mountain View emergency department has been honored by the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) with the 2023 Lantern Award for demonstrating exceptional and innovative performance in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research. El Camino Health is just one of two emergency departments in the San Francisco Bay Area to receive the recognition this year.

The Lantern Award showcases our emergency department's accomplishments in incorporating evidence-based practice and innovation into emergency care. As part of the application, emergency departments are encouraged to share stories that highlight a commitment to the care of patients and the well-being of the nursing staff. El Camino Health earned a High Performing designation in recognition of maternity care as measured by several factors including newborn complication rates and early elective delivery rates. El Camino Health is one of only two South Bay hospitals to earn this prestigious award which is the highest recognition a hospital can earn for U.S. News' Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.

El Camino Health earned an 'A' Hospital Safety Grade for both the Mountain View and Los Gatos campuses from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog that sets standards for excellence in patient care. El Camino Health is the only health system in the South Bay to have two hospitals receive the top grade.

Leapfrog assigns an "A," "B," "C," "D" or "F" grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

El Camino Health's Los Gatos Hospital has received Press Ganey's 2021 Guardian of Excellence Award for Patient Experience in Outpatient Oncology. Winners in this category have reached the 95th percentile for patient experience metrics for each reporting period in the award.
