We're committed to maintaining an open, welcoming environment on our campuses, and we make every effort to accommodate visits to our patients.

Visitors Guidelines
Effective November 1, 2023

Thank you for allowing El Camino Health to care for you and your loved ones. Safety remains our highest priority. By order of the Santa Clara County Public Health Department, masking is required for all patients, visitors and staff from November 1, 2023 through March 31, 2024 during the winter respiratory virus season. Hospital masks are available throughout the facility.

Additionally, visitors must be healthy without any of the symptoms listed below, and must follow our Hospital Visitor Guidelines. Thank you for helping us keep you, our patients and our staff safe.

Individual may not enter if: Hospital Visitor Guidelines:
(Visiting hours by department listed below)
  1. You have been in contact with a COVID-19 positive person(s) in the last 10 days.
  2. Feeling unwell or experiencing any of the symptoms below:
    • Fever or chills
    • Cough or sore throat
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • Fatigue
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea
  1. Wear hospital-provided mask or your own well-fitting N95, KN95, or KF94 mask at all times in the facility, including patient room. Cloth masks not allowed.
  2. Use hand sanitizer when entering the hospital, and again when entering and leaving the patient room.
  3. Inpatient units: Must be 14 years old or older. Visitors 14-17 years old must be supervised by an adult at all times.
  4. Maternity Unit:
    • Labor and Delivery – Children 17 years old or younger are not permitted.
    • Postpartum unit – Allows sibling(s) 14 years old or older. Siblings 14-17 years old must have adult supervision by a non-patient and may visit during visiting hours only.
  5. Emergency Department: Support person must be 18+ years old.
  6. Visiting a COVID-19 positive patient: Certain restrictions and guidelines apply. See see COVID-19 Positive Visitor Guidelines for details.
Visiting Hours and Guidelines by Department: Visitors / support person(s) must wear mask at all times — including patient room — and follow visitor guidelines.
Inpatient Units 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Two (2) support persons at a time. Must be 14 years old or older; visitors 14-17 years old must be supervised.
Critical Care and Intensive Care Units (CCU/ICU) 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
4 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Two (2) support persons at a time. Must be 14 years old or older; visitors 14-17 years old must be supervised.
Pediatrics Open hours Two (2) support persons at a time. Must be 14 years old or older; visitors 14-17 years old must be supervised.
Labor & Delivery Open hours Two (2) support persons at a time (not including doula or partner); no children 17 years or younger allowed.
Maternity / Postpartum unit 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Two (2) support persons at a time (not including partner).
No sibling(s) under 14 years old allowed. Sibling(s) 14-17 years old permitted only if they have non-patient adult supervision and only during visiting hours.
NICU Open hours Two (2) support persons at a time; one must include banded parent
Perinatal Diagnostic Center (PDC) During scheduled appointment One (1) support person for adult patient; some exceptions may apply, contact clinic for details.
Surgery Department Open hours Mountain View: Two (2) support persons allowed.
Los Gatos: One (1) support person allowed. Must be 14 years old or older; visitors 14-17 years old must be supervised.
Emergency Department Open hours Two (2) support persons allowed; must be 18+ years of age (subject to change based on volume)
Outpatient Services During scheduled appointment One (1) support person for adult patient, two (2) for minors during appointment time
Mental Health Inpatient 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Two (2) support persons allowed. Other restrictions may apply, contact department for details.
Mental Health Outpatient During scheduled appointment Two (2) support persons during appointment time
Cancer Center During scheduled appointment One (1) support person during appointment time
Inpatient Rehab 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Two (2) support persons at a time. Must be 14 years old or older; visitors 14-17 years old must be supervised.
Exception to Above Visitor Guidelines Include:
End of Life Open hours with Assistant Hospital Manager guidance Three (3) persons at a time, exceptions available upon request
