The Cardiac & Pulmonary Wellness Center provides a variety of services for the following pulmonary conditions which include:

- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (C.O.P.D.)
- Pulmonary fibrosis
- Mycobacterium avium complex (M.A.C.) (support group only)
In a caring and supportive atmosphere we offer programs to increase your respiratory muscle strength and improve the efficiency of your heart and lungs. Our goal is to provide you with exercise and training that enable you to control your symptoms and improve your quality of life.

The Cardiac & Pulmonary Wellness Center at El Camino Hospital has been awarded Program Certification for both the Cardiac Rehabilitation program and the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).
Our eight-week acute-care rehabilitation program works in conjunction with two on-going long-term maintenance options to address patients with chronic lung disease. The eight-week program meets twice a week. During each session you interact and exercise with other participants and staff to learn more about your disease and to improve your physical condition. A physician referral as well as a recent pulmonary function test and EKG are required for enrollment in the rehabilitation program.
Maintenance Exercise Program
The pulmonary maintenance exercise program is a medically supervised exercise class using an array of fitness equipment. Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays for one hour. Physician approval and graduation from pulmonary rehabilitation is required for participation. Charges for this program will be billed to you each month.

Asthma Education - Manage Your Asthma
Our program will answer your questions and teach you how to control symptoms, recognize triggers and develop and "action plan" for asthma attacks. The program includes individual session with an Asthma Educator, Asthma kit with educational tape and monitoring tools, customized "Asthma Action Plan" and follow up phone calls by the educator as needed.
Better Breathers Support Group
This group offers an opportunity for individuals to vent frustrations, share coping mechanisms and learn more about pulmonary diseases, in a relaxed non-judgmental environment.
Breathing Exercises for people with pulmonary disease are accomplished by when playing the harmonica. Inhaling and exhaling through the instrument improves respiratory muscle conditioning, provides a focus on breathing and adds the joy in your life that comes from playing and sharing music. Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group
This support group is for patients with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and their families. Group discussion and special guest speakers will be the focus for all who are interested in sharing and learning about IPF.
Mycobacterium Avium Complex (MAC) and Bronchiectasis Support Group
This group is for persons with pulmonary disease specific to the mycobacterium avium complex, avium-intracellulare and bronchiectasis. The group offers the opportunity for individuals with these diseases to meet in a non-judgmental and safe environment.
Ash Kickers is a six-session smoking cessation program based on the trans-theoretical model of behavior modification. The program helps smokers travel through the various stages of quitting, which include thinking about quitting, preparing to quit, finally quitting, and preventing relapse. Ash Kickers also incorporates tobacco education, group support, and tools for maintenance as part of a comprehensive effort to help smokers as they work their way to a healthier life. Staying Free Smoking Cessation Program
Working individually with an R.N. Counselor trained to provide this program, smokers learn how to quit smoking and--more importantly--how to remain a non-smoker.
