Eating disorders — such as anorexia, bulimia and binge eating — affect every aspect of your life. They’re physically and emotionally destructive, and require expert treatment by professionals who specialize in eating disorders care.

The most effective treatment for eating disorders combines mental health therapy with medical and nutritional care. At El Camino Health, a specialized team of psychiatrists, specially trained nurses, dietitians, marriage and family counselors, and other therapists work collaboratively to provide medical, emotional and nutritional support.

Our professionals have the expertise to create a personalized program that’s focused on recovery.

Inpatient Care for Young Adults

If your child is facing an eating disorder, it can be devastating to his or her emotional and physical health and growth. The Comprehensive Eating Disorders Program provided by Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford at El Camino Health offers the expertise of a multidisciplinary team to help your child recover.

Along with adolescent medicine specialists, child psychiatrists and dietitians, our staff includes nurses, teachers, and occupational, recreational and physical therapists. Our experts provide the full spectrum of care through an inpatient program that’s designed for young adults. Care includes:

  • Diagnosis, evaluation and oversight. Doctors, psychiatrists and dietitians work together to assess your child’s mental and physical health. They develop a personalized program and monitor your child’s progress throughout the program. In many cases, children with eating disorders also suffer from mental health conditions such as depression or anxiety, so each child’s care plan is designed to address all mental health conditions.
  • Individual and group therapy. Our mental health professionals use a variety of therapy approaches to help change teens’ distorted view of themselves and their environment. Our experts focus on helping teens learn how to work through difficult relationships and other challenges that brought about the eating disorder. They incorporate meditation, exercise, education and other activities to increase your child’s awareness and develop healthy coping strategies.
