Message from the Foundation Chair

Dear Friends,

The first half of 2016 has been busy at El Camino Hospital Foundation, and we remain grateful for your continued support. More than 200 women attended Norma’s Literary Luncheon in February and contributed to establish a women’s heart program at El Camino Hospital. They heard advice on how to age gracefully from author and businesswoman Mireille Guiliano and remembered event namesake Norma Melchor, who actively contributed to our hospital until the end of her life. Scarlet Night, the South Asian Heart Center’s annual gala benefit, took place in March. More than 600 supporters heard about the Center’s pioneering mission and accomplishments, enjoyed a heart-healthy banquet, and contributed to further its expansion in the Bay Area. The Foundation’s signature annual event, Sapphire Soirée, returned to the Menlo Circus Club in May, with headline entertainment by The B-52s. Proceeds, more than half a million dollars, will provide ongoing support for the Cancer Center’s patient-focused programs.

We deeply appreciate the community’s ongoing generosity to Fulfilling the Promise, the fundraising initiative for mental health and addiction services. To date, we have received more than $6 million for the development of centers of excellence in youth and young adult mental health, women’s mental health, senior mental health, addiction, mood disorders, and thought disorders, and the construction of a new mental health pavilion on the Mountain View campus. We are two thirds of the way toward reaching Mary and Doug Scrivner’s $1 million challenge to secure the future of El Camino Hospital’s adolescent mental health program. Every gift, large or small, helps to meet this critical need in our community. Please help us disseminate our message to your friends, neighbors, and colleagues.

The El Camino Hospital Foundation Board of Directors provides vital guidance and support for all these fundraising efforts throughout the year, serving as a liaison between the hospital and community. In January we said thank you and bid farewell to board members Bernis Kretchmar, Poornima Kumar, Munjal Shah, Anil Singhal, MD, and Patricia Splinter. We welcomed new board member Romina Ahuja, who brings new talents and perspectives.

Whether you make a gift to a particular initiative or donate to the El Camino Fund to meet the greatest emerging needs, whether you attend an event, write a check, donate online, or make a planned gift through your estate, you are ensuring El Camino Hospital can continue to serve our community in a uniquely personal way. We are thankful for your partnership.

With best wishes for a relaxing summer,
Russ Satake
