Hope to Health Supports Health Care Programs for Women and Families at El Camino Hospital

Hope to Health hosted “Mindfulness: The Secret to Happiness in a Hectic World” at the Jesuit Retreat Center in Los Altos on November 1, 2017. Based on the methods of Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, mindfulness-based stress reduction is designed to teach mind and body awareness techniques that help with the physical or psychological effects of stress, pain or illness. Expert Tammi Rose, MA, spoke about building tools to help manage busy lives.

“In this hectic world we live in, it was a pleasure to take time out, to be with friends, hear an inspirational speaker, enjoy some delicious food and wine, and get started on a new path, a peaceful one,” says H2H member Judie Wolken.

Now 40 members strong, Hope to Health meets bi-monthly and holds special events like this one periodically throughout the year. Each year, members choose a particular area of focus at El Camino Hospital. They evaluate grant proposals and then vote to determine which program to support with their pooled donations. Over the past decade, the philanthropic council has contributed more than half a million dollars to seed innovative programs, including targeted mental health services for women, teens, and seniors, menopause and pelvic health care, heart education and cancer care assistance for women, the Rehabilitation Center therapy garden, and family caregiver support at the Health Library & Resource Center.
