El Camino Hospital Named One of the Nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics

March 17, 2016  - El Camino Hospital has been named one of the 2016 100 Top Hospitals® by Truven Health Analytics and one of 17 Everest Award winners. Close to 3,000 hospitals were evaluated using risk-adjusted methodologies to analyze public information.

This honor recognizes the exceptional care we deliver to our patients. Our leadership team, medical staff, and employees have achieved very high standards for performance in care, operational efficiency and financial stability. The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals winners are chosen using a national balanced scorecard measuring overall organizational performance across 11 key areas, including complications, readmissions, average length of stay, mortality, operating margin and HCAHPS score. In addition to being named a top hospital, we were also recognized as an Everest Award recipient for our rate of improvement over a five year time period.

We are proud of our work to decrease readmission rates, average length of stay, and mortality rates which ultimately means we are appropriately treating patients for their conditions to prevent them from returning to the hospital with a similar condition, help them go home sooner so they can continue to recover in the comfort of their own home and have a better chance of surviving a critical health event.

“El Camino Hospital is proud to be recognized for our clinical outcomes and named as one of the top hospitals in the country,” said Tomi Ryba, president and chief executive officer of El Camino Hospital. “Providing quality, personalized care to our patients is what matters most. Our patients benefit as a result of our team’s intense focus on these key quality measurements.”

What does this mean for patients?

A patient who visits El Camino Hospital for treatment for a heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or stroke is more likely to survive their critical health condition because our team is able to provide specialized care to treat the specific condition. While in the hospital, the patient receives personalized care and education to help her or him recover from the critical health event and return home as soon as medically possible. Once discharged, the patient is less likely to have to come back for another hospital visit for treatment for a similar condition.
