MT Group Biobank Tissue Study

Last Updated 6/25/2014 3:40:31 PM

The purpose of this study is to collect tumor tissue and normal tissue (if available) for immediate clinical research and for a Biobank. The Biobank will provide a repository of specimens for use by the world wide scientific, clinical and research communities in the development of their diagnostic protocols and new products. These tissues will enable researchers to identify new drug targets and test new and existing drugs. Studies performed on these tissues will lead to protein evaluation, genomic information and data that may predict an individual’s response to a drug or lead to new effective anti-cancer drugs. This allows developers and researchers to bring new products and ideas to market faster. It will also allow “personalized” drug therapy starting with a patient’s first treatment. It will help future cancer patients, possibly enabling family members to survive a future cancer diagnosis. The donated tissue will be used for multiple current and future projects to study markers of patients for cancer and other diseases.

Tissue will be collected during biopsy or surgery, pathology will take what is needed for diagnosis, and then if an adequate amount of tissue is left it will be shipped for study and/or storage.
