Surgery and radiation therapy are the traditional approaches for treating brain and spine tumors. Our specialists collaborate with radiation oncologists who have been specially trained in stereotactic radiosurgery. We offer two leading-edge radiation-based technologies:
- RapidArc™ radiotherapy technology is a new approach to image-guided, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IG-IMRT) that enables 3D visualization of a tumor before treatment. The RapidArc rotates 360 degrees around the patient so that beams of radiation can be aimed at the tumor from multiple angles. Radiation delivery can be continuously modulated throughout the treatment, delivering higher doses to the tumor while sparing surrounding healthy tissue. RapidArc delivers treatment two to eight times faster than other treatments, with increased precision.
- The CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System is a radiation treatment device that uses image guidance technology to pinpoint and destroy solid tumors with exceptional accuracy. It allows the surgeon to use higher doses of radiation on the tumor without adversely affecting surrounding tissue. Treatment with the Cyberknife may include 1 to 5 sessions.
