Mountain View, CA, June 17, 2013 – El Camino Hospital today announced that its Los Gatos campus received Joint Commission Certification in Hip and Knee Replacement, as well as Spinal Fusion Surgery. The Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest evaluation organization in health care, and certification is a widely recognized benchmark for overall program quality.
"This certification is a direct reflection of the Orthopedics team's hard work and commitment to providing quality patient care that meets the highest standards," said Tomi Ryba, president and chief executive officer of El Camino Hospital. "The Los Gatos campus has distinguished itself over the years for its orthopedic services and the Joint Commission Certification gives our community yet one more reason to rely upon El Camino Hospital for its orthopedic health needs, especially in the area of spinal surgery."
El Camino Hospital participated in rigorous on-site surveys in May 2013. The Joint Commission surveyor evaluated the Los Gatos campus for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management. The Joint Commission's Disease Specific Certification standards address important functions relating to the care of patients and the management of hospitals. The standards are developed in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement experts and patients.
El Camino Hospital ranks among leading hospitals in Northern California specializing in joint replacement; its surgeons perform more than 500 joint replacements each year utilizing the latest joint replacement technology. The hospital's spine specialists are trained in advanced surgical techniques- including minimally invasive procedures for lumbar spinal fusion. The hospital also provides its post-surgical patients comprehensive care, acute rehabilitation and outpatient therapies. Learn more information about El Camino Hospital's orthopedic specialties
About the Joint Commission Certification
Orthopedic programs that successfully demonstrate compliance in all areas measured by the Joint Commission are awarded certification for a two-year period. Certification demonstrates a hospital's commitment to a higher standard of service, while also providing an excellent framework for organizational structure and management. To maintain certification, the cycle repeats with an on-site review conducted every two years and a bi-annual submission of an acceptable assessment of compliance by the organization.
