Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Last Updated 8/7/2009 3:12:25 PM

El Camino Hospital's neonatal intensive care units are equipped with the latest in medical technology to treat premature and critically ill newborns.

El Camino Hospital Mountain View

The Mountain View NICU is licensed as a Level III nursery. It provides specialized continuous nursing care and support for ill newborns and infants, as well as preterm infants. A multi-system nursing assessment, as well as specialized equipment are used to provide the best care available.

The unit is medically directed by a board-certified neonatologist, specially trained in the care of newborns. She and other staff neonatologists are members of the Neonatology Division at Stanford University Medical Center and are available 24 hours a day to provide care for your baby. Each staff neonatologist guides the nursing staff, your pediatrician, respiratory therapists and other members of your baby's medical team.

Two parent rooms are set aside for parents to have a quiet, private place for visiting and breastfeeding. If the rooms are available, parents may stay overnight either on the night of admission from another hospital or on the night prior to their baby's discharge from the hospital.

El Camino Hospital Los Gatos

The neonatal intensive care unit at El Camino Hospital Los Gatos is licensed as a Level II nursery. The NICU is medically directed by a board-certified neonatologist, who is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our experienced NICU nurses have a high level of expertise in providing specialized care for premature or sick infants. Your baby’s nurse will work closely with you and the other members of the team, including the neonatologist and your pediatrician.

When the department census and needs allow, a parent room can be made available for parents to have a quiet, private place for visiting and breastfeeding. If the room is available, parents may stay overnight either on the night of admission or on the night prior to their baby's discharge from the hospital.

The Los Gatos NICU is located in the Women’s Hospital corridor between the labor and delivery and the post-partum care areas. A family waiting area is located just across the hall from the NICU.
