Mountain View Classes

Baby Care Classes
Instructors discuss bathing, feeding, diapering, layette, crying/sleeping patterns and other baby care topics. $45/couple

Breastfeeding Preparation Classes
This class, recommended for couples considering breastfeeding, provides an introduction to breastfeeding and an overview of issues you may encounter in the first six weeks.  $45/couple

Breastfeeding Support Group
In this drop-in support group for mothers and babies (birth to two months of age), participants meet other breastfeeding mothers, ask questions and receive support from the lactation services staff. Meets Tuesdays, 12 noon to 1:00 pm (except holidays). Free. We ask that you not bring strollers to this group, as the community room has limited space.

Cesarean Birth Preparation Classes
This class is for couples expecting a cesarean birth or for those who want to be prepared in case of an emergency cesarean delivery. An anesthesiologist attends to answer participants’ questions about anesthesia. $50/couple

Childbirth Preparation Classes
This series of classes is designed to prepare couples for childbirth. Instruction  includes relaxation, breathing techniques, stages of labor and the birth process. A tour of El Camino Hospital’s Mountain View maternity area is included. $145/couple

Childbirth Refresher
Couples with previous childbirth experience can review relaxation, breathing techniques, stages of labor and the birth process. A tour of El Camino Hospital’s maternity area is included. $80/couple

Home & Car Seat Safety for Infants
This class covers basic car seat safety, sleep environment safety, poison control, pool safety and general environmental safety. A wonderful complement to the Infant/Child CPR class, this class is recommended for parents, grandparents and child care providers. $45/couple

Infant Massage
Join our infant massage therapist for this informative four week class. Infant massage helps improve baby’s sleep and lessen tension, fussiness and irritability. Infant massage also can aid baby’s digestion, providing relief from gas and colic. This class is open to parents and their newborns and infants (not yet crawling). $75/person plus $15/Lab Fee.

Infant/Child CPR
Certified instructors teach techniques to save the life of an infant or child by recognizing unconsciousness, respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest and choking; performing effective CPR; and correctly activating the Emergency Medical Services (911) system. Participants practice techniques on manikins. This class is recommended for parents, grandparents and child care providers. $50/person or $75/couple

Journey to Family: Maternity Orientation
This multimedia presentation shows you what to expect during your stay at the Maternal Child Health Center at El Camino Hospital. Extended family members are welcome to attend. This free orientation is held once a month in the main hospital, at the back of the cafeteria. Registration is required; call 650-940-7302. Free

New Mothers Support Group
New mothers and their babies, ages three weeks to three months, meet for six weeks to share experiences and discuss infant care and behavior, parenting and role changes. Participants receive information about feeding, health and safety, early development and community resources. $95/6 sessions

Mothers Support Group II
Mothers and their babies, ages three to six months and six to twelve months, meet for six weeks to continue discussing the topics covered in the New Mothers Group. Participation in the New Mothers Group is not a prerequisite. $95/6 sessions

Mothers Support Group III
Mothers with toddlers, ages 1 to 21/2 years, discuss development, sleep, nutrition, positive discipline and socialization during this six week program.

Toddler Support Group (call for schedule)
Mothers with toddlers, ages 1 to 21/2 years, discuss development, sleep, nutrition, positive discipline and socialization during this six week program. $100/6 sessions

Parents Group (call for schedule)
Parents and their babies, ages 12 to 18 months, meet for six weeks to share concerns about parenthood. Topics include limit setting, development, safety, illnesses and family systems. $110/6 sessions

Practicing for Labor & Birth

Participants are required to complete a Childbirth Preparation class series at El Camino Hospital prior to registration. This two hour class is designed to give couples the opportunity to practice their relaxation skills in preparation for childbirth and review coping strategies and labor support. Free for participants who have completed Childbirth Preparation classes at El Camino Hospital,  $40 for participants who have completed Childbirth Preparation classes with a different provider.

Prenatal/Postpartum Fitness at the YMCA
Exercise classes for pregnant women and new mothers are offered in cooperation with the Mountain View/Los Altos YMCA. Mothers may bring their infants. Visit the El Camino YMCA Web site for details.

Sibling Preparation
Children ages three to eight years prepare for the birth of a sibling by learning about newborns and safety issues, and by discussing their feelings. The class includes role play with dolls.  A tour of the nursery, labor and delivery, and maternity areas is included. (At least one parent is required to attend.) $35 /one child - $50/two or more children.
