Pelvic health disorders affect nearly a quarter of all women in the United States. And, as we age, these conditions become more and more common. Chances are you know someone who is currently dealing with a pelvic or reproductive health problem, whether it’s frequent urination, infertility due to endometriosis or uncontrollable menstrual bleeding.
In many cases, we have our children to blame for this. Both vaginal births and Cesarean
sections can lead to pelvic health issues (such as incontinence and pelvic prolapse) later in life, especially if you have given birth to more than one child.
In other cases, pelvic problems can start when we’re just children ourselves. Excessive bleeding during menstruation and endometriosis are two issues that can begin as early as the teen years.
As any woman challenged with a pelvic health disorder knows, these issues can affect your quality of life and your overall reproductive health. Excessive bleeding and urinary incontinence can make going out in public a nightmare. Endometriosis can make it difficult to get pregnant. And many pelvic conditions are not just inconvenient, they are cripplingly painful and can lead to a host of other medical problems if left untreated.
A Comprehensive Program for Pelvic Health
Sadly, a lot of misinformation exists today about the treatment of pelvic health disorders. At El Camino Hospital, we’ve seen countless patients come through our doors who were previously told by friends--or even their family physician--that their condition was something that couldn’t be treated. Incontinence is “just part of aging” or heavy bleeding "just happens to some girls." If you are hearing these types of statements yourself, we urge you: don’t listen. Come talk to us.
We have assembled a panel of sixty physicians that are committed to our Pelvic Health Program including specialists in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), urology, surgery, da Vinci Robotic surgery, and gynecologic oncology. Download our Pelvic Health Program brochure (PDF).
Our comprehensive program is designed to address pelvic health issues for women at any stage of their life. The program includes components such as:
- Educational seminars on pelvic health
- A pelvic floor health self assessment (PDF)
- A care coordinator/nurse navigator for the program
- Health and wellness exercise classes
- Physical therapy for pelvic health, from preventative to post surgery; see our brochure on the Pelvic Health Rehabilitation Program (PDF)
- Inpatient and outpatient surgery program
- Professional education for nurses, physicians and therapists
El Camino Hospital we believe all women should have access to specialists in the field of pelvic health: physicians and physical therapists who know just how to treat these conditions, and will take the time to listen to your story and find just the right solution for you.
