Last Updated Monday, August 04, 2014 11:44:12 AM

El Camino Hospital's neonatal intensive care units are equipped with the latest in medical technology to treat premature and critically ill newborns.

El Camino Hospital Mountain View

Licensed as a 20-bed Level III nursery, El Camino Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is equipped with the latest medical technology to treat premature and critically ill newborns.

The unit is medically directed by a board-certified neonatologist, a specialist in the care of newborns. She and our other staff neonatologists are members of the Neonatology Division at Stanford University Medical Center. Our staff neonatologists are available 24 hours a day to provide care for your baby. They guide the nursing staff, your pediatrician, respiratory therapists, and other members of your baby’s medical team.

A room is set aside to provide a quiet, private place for parents. Parents can stay overnight, either on the night of admission from another hospital or on the night prior to their baby’s discharge, if space is available, at no added cost.

The neonatal intensive care unit at El Camino Hospital Los Gatos is a licensed Level II Special Care Nursery that cares for preterm and ill newborns. It is equipped with all the current medical technology that allows for the care of infants 32 weeks and above. The NICU is directed by a board-certified neonatologist who provides for medical coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our experienced NICU nurses are all nationally certified and provide a high level of expertise in providing the specialized care necessary for our infants. The NICU nurses focus on family-centered approach and work very closely with our team of physicians, mother-baby nurses and lactation consultants to provide the best possible care.

We encourage visitation by parents in the NICU an promote skin to skin care whenever your baby’s condition allows. Whenever room is available in the hospital, we encourage our parents to stay over and ‘room-in’ (at no added cost) to allow for more frequent NICU visitation, better bonding and optimal breastfeeding care throughout the baby’s stay.

The Los Gatos NICU is conveniently located centrally in the Maternal-Child corridor between Labor/Delivery and Mother/Baby. A family waiting area is locate directly across the hall from the NICU.
