Kidney Stones

Our team of urology experts has been treating kidney stones with mini- mally invasive procedures for more than 20 years. About 70 percent of the urological procedures we perform are done using lithotripsy. Our urologists have access to all the existing modalities and devices for extracorporeal (outside the body) and intracorporeal (inside the body) stone treatment. This allows for treatment to be customized according to the size and nature of the stone, its location, and the anatomy of the patient’s urinary tract.

We offer a full range of treatments for the removal of kidney stones:

• Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL)
  This noninvasive device is used outside the body to produce shock waves that break up kidney stones without damaging living tissue. The stone is broken into many small, sandlike particles that are elimi- nated with the urine.


• Intracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy with a holmium laser
  Holmium laser lithotripsy breaks up kidney stones through the use of a scope inserted through the bladder and into the ureter. The scope is equipped with a laser light fiber. From the end of this small and very flexible fiber, the holmium laser generates a powerful shock wave that can effectively fragment all types of ureteral, bladder, and kidney stones.
