El Camino Hospital Los Gatos Urology Center provides diagnostic testing, advanced treatments and high-quality care for a wide range of medical conditions involving the male and female urinary tract and the male reproductive organs. The Center has been treating patients for nearly 25 years and is one of the Bay Areas leading programs for minimally invasive urologic procedures.
The Center has evolved into a minimally invasive urology program, providing options that lessen the need for open surgery for urinary conditions including:
Lithotripsy
This minimally invasive therapy uses high-energy shock waves to break stones into pieces as small as grains of sand, which can then be passed in the urine.
There are two types of lithotripsy treatment available at the Center:
Intracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy
The energy that fragments the stones is generated within the patient's body, using lasers and laser fibers.
Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy
This treatment uses shock waves that are produced outside of the body. Energy is focused through the body and onto the urinary stone to break it up with minimal damage to other living tissue.
The Center also offers treatments for:
Brachytherapy
We are one of the leading programs for Brach therapy, an alternative to surgery, for prostate cancer in the Bay area.
This procedure treats the prostate cancer with radioactive seeds that are implanted directly within the cancerous tissue which is done with real time intra-operative computer planning. This helps to ensure that the correct radiation dose is given to the diseased tissue with minimal damage to surrounding tissue.
Cryotherapy
This procedure freezes the prostate in order to kill cancer cells
- Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia or BPH (enlargement of the prostate gland)
Diode Laser and Green Lite Laser
This is a minimally invasive method of reducing prostate tissue enlargement. It works by vaporizing the enlarged tissue using laser energy. This type of treatment method allows the patient to go home the same day of the procedure.
Cooled Transurethral Microwave Thermotherapy "Cooled" (TUMT)
This type of treatment uses microwave energy to shrink the enlarged prostate tissue over a period of time.
Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) and Gyrus Plasma Kinetic resectoscope (GyrusKP)
This is the traditional gold standard treatment of BPH allowing the doctor to remove sections of the enlarged prostate.
