El Camino Hospital Elder Summit

The Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) Program hosted an Elder Summit at El Camino Hospital. Thank you to all who joined us on Friday, May 30, 2014.

The Elder Summit aimed to empower both clinicians and community members to improve the well-being of seniors. This was an all-day resource fair open to the community and clinicians.

This free event included lectures, demonstrations and information.

Topics and events included:

  • A Tai Chi interactive demonstration
  • Behavioral symptoms of dementia
  • Palliative care and hospice
  • Prevention and treatment of stroke
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Ask-a-pharmacist with Jocelyn Reynoso - 9:00 a.m. - Noon
  • A balance check with Beverly Roden - 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
  • Aging Sensitivity - Activity 
  • Community resources

Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance


This is an evidenced-based falls prevention program for older adults int he community. Tai Chi has been shown to reduce falls and the fear of falling by about 50%.
