Unique Program Just for Men
The Men's Health Program, located at El Camino Hospital Los Gatos, is designed to offer diagnosis and treatment of two common medical problems affecting thousands of men in the Bay Area and nationally: benign prostate disease, or BPH; erectile dysfunction (ED); testosterone deficiency; and male urinary incontinence.
Led by board-certified urologists, the Men's Health Program is the only one of its kind in Santa Clara County supported by a hospital-based urology service. The focus of the program is on identifying and addressing potential health issues of which BPH and ED may be symptoms, as well as alleviating the symptoms themselves. The majority of tests, treatments and surgeries can be offered on an outpatient basis.
Sensitive Issues
Although BPH and ED are common medical problems affecting many men, especially older men, these issues are not routinely discussed during regular physician visits because of the sensitive nature of these conditions and poor awareness of treatment options. The Men's Health Program offers a full-service, safe environment where men can receive the best in diagnostic evaluation and the full range of available treatments.
With its own private entrance (see the campus map), the Men's Health Program offers a personal and confidential environment designed specifically for men, who are often reluctant to discuss sensitive issues in their physicians' offices.
Hospital-Based Program
The Men's Health Program is the only program in Santa Clara County focused on sensitive male urologic health issues, led by board-certified urologists and supported by a hospital-based urology specialty. The program represents an expansion of the urology service at El Camino Hospital Los Gatos, one of the hospital's largest service lines, comprising a full range of male and female urologic services. In support of the program, the hospital offers inpatient and outpatient surgery, laboratory and diagnostic imaging, and a network of specialists that creates a one-stop resource for patients.
Edward Karpman, MD and Patrick Wherry, MD serve as co-medical directors of the Men's Health Program.
