You will go from the recovery room to a private room after your weight loss surgery. At first you will be alert, but sleepy. Our bariatric nursing team will get you up and walking within two hours after you return to your room. By that evening, you can expect to be able to watch TV, read, visit, etc.
Our new bariatric unit has size-appropriate furnishings throughout, including in your private room, which comes equipped with a television and Wi-Fi Internet connection. There are chairs for family members or friends, including a chair that opens into a small bed if you want them to spend the night--and they are most welcome to do so.
Depending on your procedure, you will stay in the hospital for one to three days after your weight loss surgery.
A word about our exceptional bariatric nursing team: Our nurses are specialists in bariatric nursing, and they not only have the latest skills and knowledge but also are passionate about helping you gain greater well-being. We think you’ll see what we mean.
During your hospital stay, you’ll continue working with your health care team. Your team will help you with pain management and make sure you are walking as soon as possible to prevent complications.
Your surgeon will determine when you will be allowed to begin your postoperative diet, starting with clear liquids.
You’ll receive detailed instructions on caring for your incisions and adhering to the new eating habits you’ll be establishing.
Most patients can resume normal work activities within two to three weeks after weight loss surgery.
