Financial Assistance

Last Updated 11/20/2008

El Camino Hospital is committed to providing financial assistance or financial need discounts to patients who are uninsured, under-insured, ineligible for government programs, and are otherwise unable to pay for their medical services. El Camino Hospital strives to ensure that the financial capacity of our patients does not prevent them from seeking or receiving medical care at El Camino Hospital.

The following healthcare services are eligible for El Camino Hospital’s financial assistance program:

  • Emergency medical services provided in an emergency room setting.

  • Services for a condition which, in the opinion of the treating physician or other health care professional, would lead to an adverse change in the health status of an individual if not treated promptly.

  • Non-elective services provided in response to life-threatening or health-threatening circumstances.

Patients seeking help are required to complete an application, and they must provide a denial letter from the MediCal program and proof of income (most recent paystubs and tax returns) to confirm they do not exceed 350% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) guidelines. A customer service representative will help determine eligibility for government and community programs that may help cover medical expenses.

El Camino Hospital also extends a 75 percent cash discount on eligible healthcare services to patients without insurance who choose to pay with cash, or to patients receiving eligible services not covered by insurance who choose to pay with cash, or patients who choose to pay cash for eligible services in lieu of billing their insurance.

Our customer service representatives are available to answer your questions during normal business hours. You can reach our department by calling 650-940-7220.
