Fellowships: Unrivaled opportunities in education
The El Camino Hospital Foundation has generously funded a one-year multidisciplinary postdoctoral fellowship program for two physicians chosen from the fields of interventional cardiology, interventional radiology, vascular surgery and cardiothoracic surgery.
Under the direction of Dr. James Joye, director of research and education, the fellows work side by side with experts in each field. They undergo cross-training and extensive endovascular experience in all areas of intervention including:
- acute stroke and carotid interventions
- complex aneurysm repair
- renal and mesentric intervention
- all aspect of lower-extremity intervention, including limb salvage
They are exposed to all clinical and imaging aspects of caring for patients with cardiac and vascular disease, and actively participate in the robust research program of the Institute. Fellows are also encouraged to explore entrepreneurial interests and opportunities through structured exposure to the Fogarty Institute for Innovation.
Quarterly Stroke Dinner Meetings

Weekly Case Conferences
Weekly case conferences are valuable forums for collaboration. They are formal, organized meetings of cardiologists, vascular surgeons, cardiac and thoracic surgeons, radiologists, and all interested health care partners who care for patients with cardiac and vascular disease.
The group meets to review already-performed cases that have teaching value. cases in progress are also reviewed in order to gain the insight of multiple experts from multiple fields. Drawing from the collective expertise of the group, the presenting physician gains new insights and ideas, resulting in an optimal treatment plan that is precisely suited to the individual patient.
