Dr. Kearns has been a physician in the community for more than three decades, and is board certified or eligible in internal medicine, nutrition geriatrics and critical care medicine.

In the past three decades, Dr. Kearns has also been highly involved in both national medical associations and in more targeted local efforts to improve the health of Silicon Valley. He has served in leadership roles in groups such as the American Diabetes Association, Healthy Living, CMA Foundation's Obesity Prevention Project, co-chaired Take Control of Your Diabetes, and worked with The Health Trust on Silicon Valley's healthy hospital project. He has been a member of more than a dozen health organizations, including the Countywide Chronic Care Collaborative, Silicon Valley Primary Care, and the Diabetes Coalition of Santa Clara County.

A proponent of smart use of health information technology, Dr. Kearns has been involved in the development of a Chronic Disease Management System registry program for diabetes, anticoagulation, congestive heart failure, hepatitis, adult weight management, asthma, and childhood obesity through lifestyle change. He strives to increase access to medical care for those dealing with chronic conditions.

A resident of Los Gatos, Calif., Dr. Kearns received his bachelor's degree at UC-Berkeley, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and his medical degree at UCLA being elected to AOA. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and spent much of his career caring for patients in the safety net.
