After training, Dr. Patel joined the University of Wisconsin Radiation Oncology faculty and led the breast cancer clinical and research program until joining WRO in 2008. Dr. Patel has a special interest in targeted radiation therapy with brachytherapy and radiosurgery.

He has published over 50 manuscripts and meeting abstracts and has given 3D-HDR brachytherapy presentations around the world. He was elected as the 2010-11 President of the American Brachytherapy Society and leads several patient and physician training initiatives. He has been the recipient of two Komen Foundation research grants for studies evaluating targeted therapies in breast cancer.

He serves as the Director of Breast Radiation Services at the Center of Advanced Radiation Therapy and Cyberknife Radiosurgery Center at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View. He also practices at the WRO center in Pleasanton.
