Service Summary
The volunteer provides friendly non-medical assistance in the Emergency Department (ED)
to add an extra human touch, lessen stress and increase efficiency. The ED Assistant mainly assists ED staff and occasionally visitors.
Key Qualifications
- Mature, caring, dependable and people-oriented, with excellent communication skills.
- Must be able to stand/walk for three to four hours.
- Must be able to work a minimum of once per month.
- Must be able to work unsupervised, multi-task and relate tactfully to patients, their family and friends and the medical staff.
Job Description
ED Assistant:
Your responsibility is to assist the ED staff with a variety of tasks, such as: helping prepare beds for incoming patients; folding and restocking linen; restocking blankets and gowns in the warming ovens; helping the ED administrative staff assemble forms used for patient records; and occasionally running errands to the laboratory or pharmacy. Occasionally, you also assist family and visitors from the ED Waiting Room to locate their patient’s bedside.
