Junior volunteers provide assistance in a variety of roles as described below. During their volunteer hours Junior volunteers may encounter patients, family members, physicians, hospital administration and medical staff.

Escort

Escort volunteers know every area of El Camino Hospital and respond to staff requests to deliver paperwork, lab samples, etc. to the desired location. When called, they also go up to patient rooms with wheelchairs, get the discharged patients and take them to their rides at the curb.


Information

Information volunteers are the face of El Camino Hospital. These volunteers go the extra mile to answer questions of incoming patients and visitors, provide information and directions to hospital services, and maintain current list of patients to help the public visiting loved ones in the hospital.


Mother-Baby Services

Mother-baby volunteers assist patients, staff, and visitors in various ways, including serving as receptionist for visitors, assisting with paperwork, maintaining the patient refrigerator and snack supplies, assisting mothers with their menu choices, providing wheelchair transport for mothers visiting their babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and helping with patient discharges.


Patient Safety Volunteers

Patient Safety volunteers round on patients who are designated fall risks to make sure that all prescribed safety protocols are in place and liaise between patients and nursing staff.

Escort

Escort volunteers direct and escort patients to registration, out-patient surgery, lab and radiology. They also escort hospital visitors to patients' rooms. When requested by medical staff, they take discharged patients by wheelchair to the front lobby entrance. Escorts are thoroughly familiar with the hospital, including its various departments and patients' rooms.


Information/Greeter

Information volunteers are the first people that patients and visitors meet when they come to the hospital. These volunteers greet visitors, answers questions, provide directions to hospital services and maintain current list of patients to help the public visiting loved ones in the hospital.


Rehabilitation Center Assistant

Rehab Assistants assist the Rehab staff in a variety of administrative and non-medical tasks. They replenish linens and other supplies as needed in patient rooms and storerooms. They assist patients in non-medical ways and may engage patients by playing board games and making simple crafts.


Patient Safety Volunteers

Patient Safety Volunteers are responsible for checking on all patients who are designated fall risks. They make sure that all prescribed safety protocols are in place and liaise between patients and the nursing staff.


Medical/Surgical/Orthopedic Assistant

Medical/Surgical/Orthopedic Assistants aid the nursing staffs of these three departments in administrative and non-medical tasks. They replenish linens and other supplies as needed, assist patients in non-medical ways, and welcome patients' visitors and give them information about the hospital and hospital services.
