Spine Surgery at Los Gatos

Last Updated 1/23/2013 2:06:43 PM

Getting its start more than 30 years ago, spine surgery remains a premier program at the 143-bed El Camino Hospital Los Gatos. Fortunate to attract some of the nation’s top ortho-spine surgeons, the program has grown in volume and complexity of surgical procedures performed.

Cynthia Harmer, RN, director of perioperative services, says a wide range of spine Image of a spine consultationsurgeries is available at the Los Gatos campus. "We’re running two spine surgical suites, doing about three to four cases a day," she says. "cases range from the more common spine surgeries like spinal fusion, laminectomies or discetomies, done both minimally invasive and traditionally, to highly complex procedures like scoliosis surgery or spinal reconstruction.

"El Camino Hospital has made a significant investment in technology and surgical equipment, which allows our surgeons to give patients the best surgical options available."

Contributing to one of the successful programs at Los Gatos is an agreement between the hospital and 19 orthopedic surgeons who oversee all aspects of inpatient and outpatient orthopedic services, starting with preadmission testing and continuing through surgery and rehabilitation. "Our spine surgery outcomes are excellent because we have highly trained physicians using specialized microsurgical techniques combined with superb nursing and administrative support both in the operating room and on the orthopedic pavilion," says Michael Cluck, MD, vice chair of orthopedic surgery, Los Gatos.

Orthopedic and neuro surgeons who specialize in this type of surgery are also available at El Camino Hospital’s Mountain View campus.
