When Donna Hughs, a special education teacher's aide from Mountain View, was diagnosed with colorectal caner last year, she was scared, but after having supported other friends and family through their cancer journeys, she approached her own diagnosis pragmatically and with a resolve to fight. She knew her treatment regimen - which would require radiation, chemotherapy and surgery -- would be complicated and she felt like she might need extra support. Fortunately for Hughs, the Cancer Center at El Camino Hospital, where she receives treatment offers a valuable program that provides assistance to patients, survivors, families and caregivers to help them chart a course through their own journey with cancer following diagnosis.
