Suspensions and expulsions in the Sunnyvale School District have dropped 66 percent and disciplinary referrals are down 78 percent this past year, according to a recent report released by the Community Health Awareness Council. CHAC provides on-campus counseling and therapy to students and families through a program funded by El Camino Hospital's Community Benefit Healthcare Grant and the Sunnyvale School District.
"Our goal in the Sunnyvale School District has been to increase opportunity to learn and keep student time on task by reducing student suspensions and expulsions," district superintendent Benjamin Picard said. "It is clear that CHAC has helped us achieve that goal."
