
Dr. Eric A. Pifer was previously the Assistant Professor of Medicine and Chief Medical Information Officer at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, a $2.9 billion enterprise dedicated to the related missions of medical education, biomedical research, and quality patient care. Since 1998, he has led the implementation and customization of clinical information systems there, deploying clinical decision support interventions to improve quality of care for patients. Dr. Pifer maintained a medical practice and teaching responsibilities at the University.
In 2006, Dr. Pifer received the American Medical Director of Information Systems Award for Excellence. He also is a 2003 recipient of the Alfred E. Stengel Health System Champion Award. He is widely published on the subject of health care informatics, with his most important contribution coming as a co-author of the well-received book, Improving Outcomes with Clinical Decision Support.
