Members of Hope to Health Los Gatos attended an informative presentation on travel medicine by local infectious disease specialist Dr. Sumit Majumder at California Café on May 16. They proudly presented checks representing their pooled 2012 philanthropy to three programs benefiting women and families at El Camino Hospital Los Gatos.
The largest grant will help to underwrite construction of the Rehabilitation Center's Healing Therapy Garden, which will provide a place for patients to relax in a natural environment between therapy sessions or to exercise by gardening, walking, and wheeling on the outdoor path.
The women's philanthropy group members also chose to support the Health Library and Resource Center’s family caregiver assistance program, which offers professional consultation to caregivers, the majority of whom are women, as they cope with the difficulties of tending an elderly relative. The newly launched ASPIRE program in Los Gatos was the third grant recipient.
Women are welcome to join either Hope to Health chapter at any time. Members pool their dues each year, review grant proposals and then vote on the programs they wish to philanthropically support. For more information, please contact Lea Morgan, development director, at 650-962-5853.
